Terms of service
The agreement between your organisation and us. Written to be read.
Who we are
Openn Shield is provided by The Openn Group, a sole proprietorship registered in India and owned by Amit Singh Rawat, in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India (“we”, “us”). “You” means the organisation that creates the workspace, and the person who accepts these terms confirms they may bind it.
The service
Openn Shield is a web application for governing how an organisation uses AI tools: a register of the tools it allows, policies its people agree to, a risk register, alerts, and a scanner that checks text for patterns such as keys, personal data and the organisation’s own keywords. We improve it over time. If we remove something you rely on, we tell workspace owners in advance.
What the scanner does, and does not
The scanner runs in the browser of the person using it and finds only what its published rules and your keywords describe. It does not understand meaning, does not watch AI websites or apps, and does not block or change anything. A scan with no findings does not mean the text is safe to share.
The scanner helps your people decide; it does not decide for them. You remain responsible for what your organisation shares with AI tools and for the policies you publish. The starter policy templates are a starting point, not legal advice.
Accounts
Sign-in is by a code sent to each person’s email, so keep email accounts secure, and use two-step sign-in for owners and admins. You are responsible for what happens in your workspace and for the people you add to it. Tell us at support@theopenngroup.com if you think an account has been misused.
Your data
What you put into Openn Shield stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it only to provide the service to you. Our privacy policy and data processing terms explain how, and the data processing terms apply to the personal data in your workspace. Text and files checked with the scanner are not sent to us.
You are responsible for having the right to put that data in, including telling your people how their data is used.
Acceptable use
- Use it only lawfully, and only for your own organisation (or your clients’, with their permission, if you are a service provider).
- Do not use it to monitor people covertly or to record anything beyond what governing AI use needs.
- Do not try to reach other workspaces, test our security without the care described on the security page, or overload the service.
- Do not resell the service without a written agreement with us.
Plans, prices and payment
- Plans and prices are on the pricing page. Customers billed in India pay in rupees, with 18% GST added to the prices shown, and receive a GST tax invoice. Everyone else pays through PayPal, in US dollars where PayPal can’t take their currency; those payments are an export of services without GST, and any local tax is accounted for by the customer under the reverse charge. Your billing country decides which.
- Paid plans are billed in advance for the period you choose.
- Each workspace can take one 7-day trial for a single payment of ₹99 + GST in India or US$2 elsewhere. The trial does not renew; when it ends the workspace is read-only (you can view and export, not add or change) until you pay for a plan.
- If a paid plan ends, the workspace becomes read-only until you pay again. Your data and history are kept.
- We may change prices for future periods with at least 30 days’ notice by email.
- Refunds follow our refund policy.
Availability and support
We work to keep the service available and your data safe, but we do not promise it will never be interrupted. Support is by email. Service levels are only binding where a written agreement sets them.
Leaving, suspension and deletion
You can stop using Openn Shield at any time. Owners can download all of the workspace’s data whenever they like, including while it is read-only. An owner can delete the workspace from Privacy in the app: everything it holds is erased 14 days later, and the deletion can be cancelled until then. Backups that contain it expire on a rolling basis after that.
We may suspend a workspace that breaks these terms or is unpaid after we have warned you, except where we must act at once to protect the service or others. A suspended workspace can still be exported unless the law forbids it.
Ownership
We own Openn Shield, its software, its rules and its design. These terms give you the right to use it while your workspace is open; they do not transfer any ownership. If you send us suggestions, including feedback on findings, we may use them without obligation to you.
Liability
The service is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data that an export would have protected, or for anything shared with an AI tool, whether or not the scanner flagged it. Our total liability in any 12 months is limited to the fees you paid us in those 12 months. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We update the date at the top when these terms change. For meaningful changes we email workspace owners at least 30 days before they apply. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept them.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. We will first try to settle any dispute by talking. If that fails, the courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka have jurisdiction, without taking away any rights your local consumer law gives you.
